The primary reason we love lacrosse and dedicate our lives to game is because of the people we connect with. Players and their families have had a profound effect on us throughout our careers. As coaches and fathers, we have encouraged our players to thank their families for the sacrifices they make so they can play the game and treat their teammates as brothers. To us, lacrosse and family are synonymous. In our minds, no family better symbolizes this than the McKemey clan.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Connor and your whole family. Upon hearing about your ordeal, we immediately were moved to action in honor of Connor. Having coached Connor through Team Charlotte, South Charlotte Select, Lumberjack, and Empire Lacrosse Camp, we recognize Connor as a polite, well-rounded, and engaging young man. He has always been an unselfish and dedicated player, which is clearly why he has received such an outpouring of support.
In an effort to show support for Connor and his family during this trying time, Empire Lacrosse Camp has established the McKemey Family Spirit Scholarship which will allow all of the McKemey boys to attend Empire Lacrosse Camp free of charge for as long as they are eligible. In addition, Empire Lacrosse Camp will establish the Bear Down Scholarship awarded yearly to a player who embodies the qualities of team work and dedication to the sport; qualities we recognize in Connor.
Please accept these gestures as some small token of the great appreciation we have for Connor’s strength. We will continue to keep Connor and the McKemey family in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
The Empire Lacrosse Family
Tim Price, Bobby Thompson, William Humphrey
